I had no idea it would be such a moving, entertaining performance, so when Natalie suggested that we go, the thought of a Tuesday night out in downtown San Jose after a long day at the office just two days before Thanksgiving … hey, didn’t she realize that “Chicago Fire” was on TV that night?. “Riverdance?” I moaned, whining like a 6-year-old. “That sounds awful!”. “Awful? Are you crazy?” she replied in that way she has to actually make me sound crazy. “Haven’t you ever seen them on television? They’re fantastic.”.

“Great,” I said, “So why don’t we just stay home and get a ‘Riverdance’ DVD from Netflix?”, “Uh, remember when you made me go see ‘Mall Cop 2’ earlier this year?” she said, “We’re going.”, Fine! So I resigned myself to the fact that we were going, I knew it wouldn’t be the worst show we had ever seen there (yes, we were in the audience for “Legally Blonde: The Musical”), And a few years ago ballet slipper charm- sterling silver- dance jewelry- ballerina jewelry- dancers jewelry- recital gift- dance competition gift my son Kevin gave Natalie two tickets to “The Nutcracker” for Christmas..

Now, I know I’m going to ruffle a few feathers here, but I just don’t like “The Nutcracker”–it’s just not my thing. So I was pretty bored through the first act and slept through most of the second act. But during intermission while I was outside getting some air (translation: trying to wake up), I saw something very funny. There was still water in the big pond outside at the time, and some kid–wearing his Sunday best–fell in. His mother quickly scooped out her drenched child, but it was pretty funny to watch. Not as funny, though, as when a second kid splashed in moments later on the other side of the pond. I couldn’t help but laugh out loud … hysterically.

I knew “Riverdance” wouldn’t be nearly as bad as “Legally Blonde” ballet slipper charm- sterling silver- dance jewelry- ballerina jewelry- dancers jewelry- recital gift- dance competition gift or “The Nutcracker,” so I resigned myself to the fact that we were going–until, of course, the Golden State Warriors beat the Denver Nuggets last Sunday and would be going for a record-setting 16th straight victory to open the season … right, on Tuesday night against the Lakers, “Nooooo!” I said, whining again on Monday night, “We can’t go see ‘Riverdance’–I can’t miss the Warriors game!”..

“There will be plenty of Warriors games this season,” Natalie said. “You can miss this one, and they can win with or without you watching.”. “But this is the game!” I tried to explain. “They’re going to set a record!”. She just smiled, and went back to the business of unthawing our dinner. And with that smile, she said it all: We were going to see “Riverdance.”. Turns out, it was the right choice. The Warriors did win anyway (go Dubs!), and we got to see a great show. It’s the best thing I’ve seen at the Center for the Performing Arts since those two kids fell into the pool at “The Nutcracker.”.
