All participants jumped into the pool at the same time, grabbed a little rubber duck to win a prize, and then sprung, as if on a pogo stick, “very rapidly” out of the pool, Cashton Curtner, a first-grader at John Muir Elementary School in San Bruno, took the plunge for the first time, “How do you feel now that you jumped into the water?” this columnist asked Cashton, “It was cold!” a shivering Cashton said, “I’d do it again though, I got ballerina - dance, ballet - machine embroidery, embroidery designs, embroidery patterns, embroidery files a prize … a gift card to Baskin-Robbins.”..

Cashton is the 7-year-old son of San Bruno resident Scott Curtner, president of the San Bruno Education Foundation, who, along with Cashton’s nine-year-old sister, Clarice, a fourth-grader at John Muir Elementary School, also joined him in the Polar Bear Plunge. The chilling challenge, hosted by the San Bruno Community Services Department under the guidance of Brian Noce, recreation services coordinator, is an idea conceived by Jennie Tucker, former recreation services supervisor, to benefit the Youth Enhancement Scholarship Fund. About $2,300 was raised for the fund that is designed for youths, ages 17 and under, who are San Bruno residents seeking financial assistance for recreation programs and activities.

“Li has fed hundreds of guests and raised thousands of dollars for various charities,” LeClair said. “Moonstar is the first restaurant in San Mateo County to have an educational program to teach children about growing organic herbs, and the importance of eating from all five good groups through ChooseMyPlate.org.”. LeClair said Li told her that, “we want to provide an environment to educate children to make healthier food choices at early ages, and to build a foundation for a healthy meal plate when they become adults.”.
