Harrison, Jr., is now on display at the Saint Mary’s College Museum of Art on the college campus in Moraga, and will be on view through Sept. 13.

This exhibition will showcase the art of watercolor painting as it was practiced in Northern California in the 19th and early 20th century, Anchored by the extensive collection put together by the Carters, the exhibition will include works from the 1860s by Juan Wandesforde and William Keith, but most of the paintings will date from the early 20th century ballet flats,leather slippers,barefoot shoes,leather travel shoes, tabi socks when a galaxy of watercolor painters was active in California, including Percy Gray, L.P, Latimer, Chris Jorgensen, Francis McComas, Sydney Yard, and Gunnar Widforss, These landscape painters worked in a bright “plein air” aesthetic, infusing credible renditions of actual scenes with their individual personalities through brush strokes and color strategies..

The Contra Costa 14 (CC14 artists) new show, “The Thrill of the Chase,” will run through August at the Orinda Library Gallery. Twenty-six of the 40 CC14 members — the group originated at a painting class at Diablo Valley College more than a decade ago — will show 2D and 3D works, including oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings, mixed media, prints and ceramics. It’s all very open to interpretation, co-curator Randy Stansberry said. “The thrill of the chase is whatever the artists choose to portray in their visual universe,” said Stansberry. “You can find a spin on it and make it work.
