JoyEmu

• My USB joystick/joypad does not work!

  Right, JoyEmu supports only traditional joysticks, which are connected to the port that (usually) is found on the audio board.

• JoyEmu does not work under Windows 2000 or XP!

  Right, JoyEmu directly read the joystick port and writes directly to the keyboard port, so it cannot work under these operating systems because these resources are protected.

• Windows 95 locks up if I try to load JoyEmu at startup.

  Use JoyEm instead of JoyEmu; be sure to put the emulator as the first command in your AUTOEXEC.BAT; you could try to insert the command in different positions, depending on your configuration.

• JoyEmu/JoyCP have a virus in it!

  Nonsense. JoyEmu and JoyCP are virus free. The original package is AV certified (run pkunzip -t and you should get correct AV certification from Simone Zanella Productions for each program). There is an old version of antivirus package (Pc-Cillin) which emits false reports for them, but McAfee VirusScan or F-Prot don't issue any warning.

• Right Ctrl and Alt Gr are not correctly emulated.

  This problem is fixed in versions 3.1 and later.

• My PC locks up when I try to calibrate my joystick/joypad under JoyCP.

  This bug is fixed in version 4.1; it was caused by a bug in system bios.

• Under Windows 95, the system locks up between the screen that tells you that the system is being shut down and the screen that tells you that it is safe to power off the system.

  This problem has been reported with motherboards equipped with Intel TX chipset, if JoyEm(u) is active when you shut down Windows 95; it is not a big problem in itself; just turn off emulation before shutting down and everything will work as expected. Actually, emulation should always stay disabled, except when really needed, because in this way you will get the best performance from your system all the time. By the way, this behaviour happens sometimes even when JoyEmu was not loaded, and seems a problem connected to Microsoft Internet Explorer.

• Num / and Num Enter are not correctly emulated.

  This problem is fixed in versions 4.0 and later.

• Under real Ms-Dos, with cpu-intensive programs in foreground I experience lock-ups.

  This can happen especially with keyboard emulation via mouse; it is caused by a slow mouse driver; replace the driver or use Windows 95. Sometimes, even joystick emulation can cause such a problem; it is always a speed issue, which should be partially relieved by version 4.0 (which is faster). Anyway, under Windows 95 the problem disappears.
